Jamhuri Day Festivities

A celebration that defines the passion for Kenya and high levels of patriotism is marked in the US by Kenyans every December 12 year after year. Various celebrations are hosted by different entities with the Kenya Embassy taking the lion’s share. The official location New Hampshire Avenue, Silver spring, MD was the scene of long time re-unions, new Acquaintance and sharing a meal together. Swahili Village restaurant outside catering had the honor for the second year to provide Kenyan cuisine delicacies to the multitude of participants in attendance. The festivities was authentically Kenyan with many reminiscing on growing up in Kenya. The games that were played, the songs that were part and parcel of being a child in Kenya. The Jamhuri day address was delivered by Mr David Gacheru,BSC,MBA deputy chief of mission as the Kenyan Ambassador to the US Mr Robinson Githae was away on official duty. A Kenyan National Identity card issuance exercise was carried out at the same venue to give the Diaspora wananchi a chance to participate in national activities while holding a current ID.

The evening was relocated to the Cococabana entertainment center, where renown Kenyan promoter in the US KakaDc had organized a one time showcase of the most acclaimed Disc jockey back in the days who featured at Club Boomerang – Ainsworth, Nairobi Kenya. One DJ Paco Perez who drew plenty of Kenyan in the US who enjoyed his music back in their hay days. Definitely a Grown and Mature party. DJ Paco Perez was at Swahili Village on arrival to taste the food he lived on for many years back in Kenya. He is now back to his country of birth Spain. A Jamhuri weekend to remember…
